House Passes Landmark Health Care Reform, Republican who voted for national health care

The House narrowly passed landmark health care legislation tonight to expand coverage to tens of millions who lack it and place tough new restrictions on the insurance industry. The measure passed 220-215 with only one Republican—Louisiana's Joseph Cao—in favor and 39 Democrats opposed. "Oh, what a night," said a triumphant Nancy Pelosi. The vote clears the way for the Senate to begin debate on its own bill.

In the run-up to a final vote, conservatives from the two parties joined forces to impose tough new restrictions on abortion coverage. They prevailed on a roll call of 240-194, and the vote cleared the way for conservative Democrats to back the overall bill. The legislation would require most Americans to carry insurance and provide subsidies to those who can't afford it. Large companies would have to offer coverage to their employees. Its estimated cost is $1.1 trillion over 10 years.

1) Will have public option- the option for members of the public who want to insured the uninsured, to put their money where their mouth is.
2) Would create over 3 billion dollar a year fund to insure the uninsured.
3) Will keep the government out of the health care business
4) Allows for other reforms, such as, tort reform, purchasing of insurance across state lines, competition, etc.

People who want health reform can donate $30 each per year to pay for the uninsured, which will create a 3 billion dollar a year uninsured fund.

On a tip, Stopthpresses caught up with Vice President-Elect Joe Biden, as he was picking out a new puppy to take to Washington with him. When asked why he was getting a new puppy Biden responded "well you know the Obama girls will soon be getting a new puppy and I thought it would be nice if I had one too. Besides, I heard the Washington Post makes good puppy potty training paper." Our reporter then jokingly asked the puppy how it felt to be a “Democratic dog”, and the puppy just whimpered and attempted to place his paws over his face, but was stopped by Biden, in order to prevent an embarrassing photo op. Biden then ran toward his car yelling back “tell your snotty newspaper that this is not a sign from nature, I’ll use Stopthepresses to potty train him on if you report this.” The Stopthepresses reporter yelled back “it’s an internet site” Biden then responded “that won’t stop me I have a home computer.”

'I know that no president has missed his first Gridiron since Grover Cleveland. Of course, President Cleveland really did have better things to do on a Saturday night. When he was in the White House -- he was married to a 21 year old woman. ... I understand these are dark days for the newspaper business, but I hate it when people say that newspapers are obsolete. That's totally untrue. I know from firsthand experience. I recently got a puppy, and you can't housebreak a puppy on the Internet.
